Justice in Chad – Hearing of General Miskine Suspended: A Case Blocked by Political Pressure

The hearing of General Abdoulaye Miskine, initially scheduled for 25 May 2026, was expected to mark a decisive step in a case that has been stalled for more than six years. However, the sudden death of a court clerk led to its immediate postponement.

Under normal circumstances, a new date should have been set for late May or early June 2026. Yet since then, there has been complete silence.

According to Charilogone’s sources, the prosecutor — although willing to let the judicial process run its course — reportedly received orders to remove the hearing from the calendar until further notice. This decision is said to have come from “higher up,” specifically from the MPS regime, under the influence of certain generals operating behind the scenes.

This deadlock comes at a time when General Miskine, weakened by illness, remains detained in Klessoum prison without trial, after more than six years in custody. A former mediator and signatory of the Khartoum Agreement of 6 February 2019, he now finds himself at the center of a case in which the judicial system appears paralyzed.

Charilogone’s sources also report that false information has circulated at the highest levels of the state: President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno is said to have claimed that the general was “wanted by the ICC.”
Yet the International Criminal Court has confirmed that no arrest warrant has been issued for Abdoulaye Miskine. This confusion is reportedly being maintained by certain Chadian officers involved in his arrest, who wish to keep the case shrouded in opacity.

Thus, the suspension of General Miskine’s hearing appears less like a simple administrative incident and more like a symptom of political obstruction. This is a case where security concerns, internal rivalries, and a clear desire to prevent a trial that could expose uncomfortable truths all intersect.
