A No-Fly Zone in Sudan: A Humanitarian Emergency

By: Alfred Camus Djasnan, Editor-in-Chief, Charilogone

The war ravaging Sudan is not limited to military clashes: it has become an unbearable burden for a people exhausted by years of suffering and instability. General Abdel Fattah al-Buhan, with the support of his allies, has plunged the country into a protracted conflict, preventing any attempt to free Sudan from their influence.

The Sudanese people, trapped in a war imposed on them, suffer indiscriminate bombings, food shortages, and constant insecurity. Airstrikes by the Sudanese army have destroyed essential infrastructure, including schools, markets, and hospitals. This brutal strategy aims to crush all resistance and keep the country under control, to the detriment of civilians who yearn for peace and independence.

A No-Fly Zone: An Urgent Solution

Faced with this situation, international observers believe that the international community, and in particular the UN Security Council, should consider establishing a no-fly zone over Sudan. This measure would protect the population from the massacres caused by the incessant bombing and limit the army's ability to continue its indiscriminate attacks.

US sanctions against the Sudanese government, which has used chemical weapons in the hope of a rapid end to the war, have not been enough to stop the violence. Some experts have argued that these sanctions should be lifted as part of a broader strategy, including the establishment of a no-fly zone to force the warring parties to negotiate a way out of the crisis.

The Sudanese no longer want to be held hostage to a war that only serves the interests of those who refuse to see the country freed from their control. They demand a lasting solution that will allow them to rebuild their nation and regain political and economic stability.

Without decisive intervention, Sudan risks descending further into chaos, and civilians will continue to pay the highest price. Establishing a no-fly zone could be a first step toward ending this imposed war and toward a future where the Sudanese people can finally determine their own destiny.
