Sudan: Strategic Repositioning and Illusions of Victory

    Source: Al Jazeera

Khartoum's rapid withdrawal of support towards Omdurman is being interpreted as a strategic repositioning, in line with wartime military plans. Meanwhile, groups linked to the former regime are celebrating a supposed victory and the end of the conflict, while moving toward Kordofan and Darfur, strengthened by their past experience.

However, the army, paralyzed by its own limitations, seems incapable of crossing the bridges of Omdurman, much less extending its influence to other regions. The coming days promise surprises, and the immediate future remains uncertain. As for the defunct regime, its return, even partial, to areas controlled by the army and Islamist brigades does not guarantee its survival. These groups will remain under surveillance until they are arrested and brought to justice for crimes committed against the Sudanese people.
