  • Secret Visit to Israel: Lieutenant General Sadiq Ismail and the Challenges of Normalization

By: Charilogone Editorial Staff With Alrakoba

A well-informed source within the Sudanese army revealed that Lieutenant General Al-Sadiq Ismail, former director of the Commander-in-Chief's Office and personal envoy of Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, traveled to Tel Aviv last week on a secret mission. The aim of this visit was to relaunch the normalization process between Sudan and Israel.

According to information obtained by Alrakoba, this mission aimed to coordinate with Israel to improve Al-Burhan's image with the new US administration led by Donald Trump, while easing tensions with the Abu Dhabi government regarding the Sudanese army. The envoy conveyed several messages to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, expressing al-Burhan's desire to finalize the normalization steps and sign the Abraham Accords in exchange for Israeli support for Sudan.
However, this approach takes place in a complex context. Sudan's recent rapprochement with Iran, which angered Israel, was presented as a necessity imposed by the isolation and international pressure Sudan has faced since the beginning of the civil war. Al-Burhan, through his envoy, promised to respect all conditions imposed by Israel for a swift conclusion of the agreement.

A source close to the Sudanese army commander also expressed Al-Burhan's frustration with what he considers a lack of cooperation from Israel. For two years, he had hoped to obtain weapons to defeat the Rapid Support Forces, but this assistance had not materialized. This lack of support has pushed Sudan to turn to Iran for military assistance, despite the tensions this has generated with Israel.

This secret visit highlights the geopolitical challenges facing Sudan, as well as Al-Burhan's efforts to strengthen relations with Israel amid a protracted civil war. It also illustrates the tensions between regional alliances and Sudan's strategic needs.
