SUDAN TRANSITIONAL GOVERNMENT REJECTS IGAD MEDIATION
SUDAN TRANSITIONAL GOVERNMENT REJECTS IGAD MEDIATIONThe Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), a regional bloc in East Africa, has actively attempted to mediate the conflict in Sudan. However, Sudan recently suspended relations with IGAD, accusing the organization of bias and violation of its sovereignty. Despite this, IGAD continues to call for dialogue to resolve the conflict.
Djiboutian President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh stressed the importance of bold leadership for conflict mediation at an IGAD meeting in Uganda. However, Sudanese General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane boycotted the summit, leaving the way open to his opponent, General Hemedti.
The situation remains complex and volatile, with ongoing efforts to find a peaceful solution.
