Sudan: Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo Takes the Lead of the New Sudan

The "Ta'sees" Alliance Unveils Its Leadership in Nyala
By: Charilogone Editorial Staff – Nyala, July 1, 2025

July 1, 2025, marks a major turning point in Sudan's political history. In Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, the founding alliance of Sudan, called "Ta'sees," officially announced its restructuring and the appointment of its steering committee. At its head: Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, head of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). He will be assisted in this task by Abdul Aziz Adam Al-Hilu, leader of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North. The event rekindles the debate on the political reconstruction of a country still scarred by years of conflict and a failed transition.

At a press conference in Nyala, the Alliance's 31-member steering committee was officially presented. It includes:

    - Dr. Alaa El-Din Awad Nugdallah, appointed official spokesperson
    - Professor Makin Mohamed Tirab, appointed rapporteur

According to Alaa Naqd, spokesperson for the Alliance, the establishment of Ta'sees is the result of in-depth dialogue between civilian political forces, armed movements, the RSF, and the SPLM-N, in a context of prolonged political impasse. The stated goal: to build a new Sudan, based on a clear, inclusive, and sustainable national vision.

This process took shape in March 2025 in Nairobi, where the various components signed a political charter and a transitional constitution. These documents lay the foundations for a new Sudanese state based on the principles of freedom, justice, and equality. They aim to replace centralized structures with a more participatory and equitable system.

The appointment of Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo as chairman of the "Ta'sees" Alliance raises both hopes for stability and questions. While some welcome an initiative for national reconstruction, others question the military's preeminence in the political arena and the challenges ahead in establishing a true rule of law.

This initiative, spearheaded by Nyala, could mark the beginning of a new political horizon for Sudan. But its success will depend on the ability of its leaders to build trust, ensure inclusiveness, and uphold the long-promised democratic values.
