Inauguration of the Thomas Sankara Mausoleum: An Honored Memory

The emotional ceremony took place at the historic site of the Council of the Entente, bringing together senior African political figures, international delegations, and citizens committed to the Pan-Africanist cause.
The distinguished guests included His Excellency Ousmane Sonko, Prime Minister of Senegal, and His Excellency Allamaye Halina, Prime Minister of Chad. The families of the victims, political authorities, and the people of Burkina Faso joined forces to honor the memory of the revolutionary leader and his companions.
The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, entrusted his Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, with the reading of a solemn speech. He emphasized the historical significance of this date, which coincides with the launch of the popular movement that led to the Revolution of August 4, 1983. He declared: "This May 17, 2025, is therefore a symbol, that of the rejection of imperialist domination, neocolonialism and their avatars: war and terrorism."
Continuing this tribute, the Head of State announced a strong measure to honor Thomas Sankara's comrades in arms: "I have decided to name streets after each of the twelve comrades who fell with Comrade President Thomas Sankara."
The inaugurated site constitutes the first phase of the Thomas Sankara Memorial, which will span over 14 hectares. This ambitious project will include a museum, a Martyrs' Square, a political school, and various cultural facilities.
The event sparked a huge public and media mobilization, reflecting the Burkinabe people's commitment to the ideals of justice, integrity, and sovereignty espoused by Thomas Sankara.
President Traoré concluded his speech by recalling the revolutionary principles that guided Sankara: "As heirs to his struggle, we recognize the responsibility we bear in these troubled times... Homeland or Death, we will win!" »
Through this memorial initiative, Burkina Faso continues to strengthen its commitment to the sovereignty and dignity of African peoples, while turning a painful page in its history toward a promising future.
