Regarding Acts of Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing in Al-Salha and Al-Qei’a – Omdurman
Date: Tuesday, May 20, 2025
The Al-Fajr Organization for Peace, Development and Justice strongly condemns the horrific massacres, war crimes, and grave violations of human rights committed today, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, by elements of what is known as the mercenary army and its allied militias against unarmed civilians from the Republic of South Sudan and marginalized Sudanese communities in the neighborhoods of Al-Salha and Al-Qei’a in Omdurman.
According to credible field reports and eyewitness testimonies, the violations include:
• Summary executions of unarmed civilians,
• Systematic acts of ethnic cleansing based on national and ethnic origin,
• Racist verbal abuse and incitement to hatred,
• Severe violations of human dignity and the right to life.
These crimes represent a clear and serious breach of international humanitarian law, the Geneva Conventions, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, all of which criminalize deliberate killing, genocide, ethnic cleansing, and identity-based persecution.
The Organization warns that continued impunity for such criminal acts will further unravel Sudan’s social fabric and entrench a culture of lawlessness, posing an imminent threat to national and regional peace and security.
Accordingly, Al-Fajr Organization for Peace, Development and Justice calls for the following:
1. An urgent international investigation, under the auspices of the United Nations and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, into the ethnic cleansing crimes in Omdurman.
2. The prosecution of military and field commanders responsible for ordering and executing these crimes before the International Criminal Court.
3. Immediate international protection for civilians in conflict areas, especially those targeted based on ethnicity or region.
4. A call for the United Nations Security Council to convene an emergency session to address these crimes and take action to protect the victims and halt the bloodshed.
The Organization, deeply alarmed by the ongoing developments, reaffirms its full commitment to documenting and exposing such violations, and holds the de facto and military authorities in Sudan fully accountable — legally and morally — for these crimes against humanity.
Justice is coming — and it will not be denied by the passage of time.
