Al-Kanabi Under Siege in Sudan: A Call for Justice and Accountability

    Al-Kanabi Conference Center
    Important Statement
Regarding the Systematic Violations Against Al-Kanabi Residents Under the Guise of So-Called "Cooperation"

The Al-Kanabi Conference Center is following with deep concern and hearts filled with pain the new wave of horrific violations being experienced by our people in several Al-Kanabi communities in Al-Jazeera State. These violations take various forms, including looting, theft, and intimidation, and are systematically aimed at displacing residents from their lands under the deceptive guise of "cooperation."

Recent days have witnessed blatant attacks targeting:

    Al-Qouz Camp
    Zaghawa Camp
    Village 14, Al-Masid Rural

Citizens' property was openly looted and stolen, and they were terrorized using barbaric terrorist methods, creating a state of extreme fear and terror. These incidents reveal a new policy aimed at emptying Al-Kanabi of its residents, either through direct forced displacement or by forcing them to "voluntary" displacement under the pressure of suffering and insecurity. According to testimonies from within these areas, thefts and violations are being perpetrated by militias known as "Sudan Shield," led by a man called "Kikil," along with armed individuals who carry out these criminal acts without any accountability or deterrence.
In the context of these violations, the Central Committee has documented cases of arbitrary detention of a number of citizens without due process, and some have been subjected to ill-treatment before any charges against them have been proven, in flagrant violation of the most basic principles of justice and human rights. These practices constitute a legal and moral crime that exacerbates the suffering of citizens and deepens the sense of injustice and exclusion.
What is happening now is an extension of a long series of marginalization and violations to which the Kenabi communities have been subjected for decades. However, this latest wave represents a dangerous escalation that threatens societal peace and reveals malicious intentions to uproot citizens from their homes and lands, erasing their historical and human existence.

We, at the Central Committee of the Kenabi Conference, affirm the following:

    1. Our complete and categorical rejection of the violations and crimes taking place against our people.

    2. Holding responsible parties—both civilian and military—fully legally and morally responsible for protecting citizens and their property.
    3. Calling on local and international human rights organizations to monitor these violations and intervene urgently to protect the population.
    4. Calling on national, regional, and international media to shed light on the terrorizing and violations occurring in Al-Kanabi, which amount to crimes against humanity.
    5. Reaffirming our commitment to the rights of Al-Kanabi residents to land, housing, services, and human dignity, and our rejection of any attempts to alter their demographic composition or obliterate their identity.
    6. The Al-Kanabi Conference Central Committee affirms that it is documenting and monitoring all violations occurring in Al-Kanabi and is working to prepare detailed reports to be submitted to relevant authorities and human rights organizations, both locally and internationally, to ensure that there is no impunity.

Message to the sons and daughters of Al-Kanabi:

In light of the systematic crimes our people are subjected to, aimed at breaking their will, displacing them, and depriving them of their rights, the responsibility to document and confront these violations falls not only on organizations and institutions, but rather is a collective duty of every individual in the Al-Kanabi community.

    We say it clearly:
You must document every crime committed against you or your community—no matter how small—with audio, video, testimony, and by all possible means.
Do not let the crime die in silence, and do not allow criminals and corrupt individuals to escape punishment. Exposing them is the first step toward justice.
Be witnesses to the truth, the voice of the weak, and a protective wall for your families.
A nation is not built on fear, but on courage, awareness, and organization.
