Dronfield, June 22, 2025 – A major military escalation occurred during the night of June 21-22, when six American B-2 Spirit stealth bombers launched a large-scale attack against several strategic nuclear sites in Iran. Thirty Thomas Wok cruise missiles were fired, targeting facilities in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan, as part of Operation Midnight Hammer.

    Washington's Declared Objective

According to the Pentagon, the operation aimed to neutralize Iran's nuclear capabilities, which were deemed close to the critical threshold. General Dan Caine, spokesman for Strategic Command, stated that the targets suffered "very significant" damage, notably thanks to the use of GBU-57 bunker-buster bombs, capable of penetrating up to 60 meters deep.

    Iranian Response

The Iranian government strongly condemned the attack, calling it a "red line crossed" and promising "eternal consequences." Shortly after the strikes were announced, explosions were reported in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, suggesting an immediate response. The Revolutionary Guards described the attack as "regrettable retaliation," suggesting a cycle of escalation.

    US Position

Despite this show of force, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that Washington was not seeking open warfare but intended to force Tehran back to the negotiating table. President Donald Trump, in a televised address, described the operation as "very successful" while calling on Iran to "choose peace."

    International Reactions

The international community appeared divided. President Vladimir Putin declared the Israeli strikes a "grave provocation" and proposed a mediation initiative. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his "deep concern" about a "dangerous escalation." In France, Emmanuel Macron convened an emergency Defense Council, stressing the need to protect European interests and avoid a regional conflagration.
