  • Kenya: Daglo Meets the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary‑General

The President of the Presidential Council and President of the Founding Alliance of Sudan, General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, held a meeting with the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary‑General, Mr. Pekka Haavisto, to discuss political and security developments in the country, as well as the humanitarian situation and ongoing efforts to achieve peace and stability.

The President of the Presidential Council welcomed the UN Envoy and wished him success in his new mission, affirming that the Peace Government is ready to fully cooperate with the United Nations and provide all necessary assistance to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.

He presented Mr. Haavisto with a detailed analysis of the root causes that led to the outbreak of the war, highlighting the involvement of the terrorist Islamist movement and the army loyal to it in igniting the conflict, as well as the historical roots of the Sudanese crisis that have contributed to the continuation of wars. He noted that some international actors approach the Sudanese issue in an overly simplified manner, without considering the real causes behind the persistence of conflict and the absence of comprehensive and sustainable peace. He added that the Sudanese problem is historical and must be resolved by addressing its roots and rebuilding the state on fair foundations that end injustice and marginalization for all Sudanese peoples.

The President of the Presidential Council reaffirmed the firm position of the Peace Government in favor of the voluntary unity of Sudan—land and people—and its commitment to countering the attempts of the terrorist Islamist movement and its affiliated army to divide the country and tear apart its social fabric, as happened with South Sudan.

He stressed that the Government and the Founding Alliance, which represent the largest historical bloc in the country with its political and social diversity, have a clear vision to resolve Sudan’s accumulated crises, based on the Transitional Constitution and the Founding Charter of Sudan, which propose fundamental solutions to the country’s problems and ensure its voluntary unity.

The President of the Presidential Council called on the United Nations to expedite the opening of its offices in areas under the control of the Peace Government in order to provide humanitarian aid to civilians who have been politically punished by the terrorist Port Sudan group, which uses food as a weapon of war to starve millions of Sudanese.

General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo reaffirmed the need for a transparent and fair investigation to identify those responsible for igniting the war in Sudan and to hold them accountable for all violations committed against Sudanese civilians, including the use of chemical weapons. He stressed that this step is essential to ending the war and achieving peace, adding that this demand is non‑negotiable under any circumstances.

For his part, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary‑General, Mr. Pekka Haavisto, affirmed that the United Nations is working to end the war and establish peace in Sudan. He stated that he has consulted several parties in search of the most effective ways to resolve the crisis, praising the willingness of the President of the Presidential Council to meet, exchange views, and assess the overall situation in the country.
