On Thursday, April 3, 2025, in Moscow, on the sidelines of the first consultation session between the Confederation of Sahel States (ESA) and the Russian Federation, His Excellency Abdoulaye Diop, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Mali, met with his Russian counterpart, His Excellency Sergey Lavrov. This meeting provided an opportunity to review the priorities of the privileged strategic partnership between Mali and Russia.

The discussions focused on bilateral, subregional, and multilateral issues of mutual interest. The two ministers emphasized the importance of intensifying bilateral cooperation in all areas of common interest. They particularly emphasized the need to elevate the economic partnership to the level of excellence in military cooperation. In this regard, emphasis was placed on the implementation of priority projects in the fields of renewable energy, air and rail transport, agriculture, and education, with the prospect of increasing the quota for school scholarships.

The two ministers also welcomed their convergence of views on crucial issues such as peace and security and non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and condemned the perfidious actions of foreign states that support terrorism. Finally, Minister Diop conveyed a message of friendship and fraternity from His Excellency General Assimi Goita, President of the Transition and Head of State of Mali, to his Russian counterpart, His Excellency Vladimir Putin. This message reaffirms Mali's commitment to intensifying dynamic, pragmatic, supportive, and mutually beneficial cooperation, serving the interests of both peoples.
