The Controversial Road Map and the Peace Government Initiative in Sudan
Political Criticism Against Ramtane Lamamra for His Adoption of the Army's Road Map in SudanBy: Charilogone Editorial & Alsudania News
Politicians have criticized the adoption by the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, Ramtane Lamamra, of the road map announced by the de facto army-controlled government in Port Sudan, accusing him of bias towards the army in its handling of the Sudanese crisis. Lamamra said in an interview with the United Nations news site last Wednesday that the Secretary-General welcomed the card.
The method was released in Port Sudan on February 9, and he called on all interested Sudanese to contribute their ideas to enrich the document, which he said would facilitate the discussions needed to rebuild a single, coherent Sudanese state. The Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General added that building on the current proposal is the next step he is taking, ready to tackle it “despite its sensitivity and difficulty.” He stressed the need for coordination between the various proposed initiatives aimed at achieving a comprehensive Sudanese national dialogue.
Wajdi Saleh, a member of the Transitional Government (Salvation) Regime Dismantling Committee, said that after Lamamra announced his adoption of the roadmap approved by the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces and leader of the coup d'état of October 25, 2021, he deviated from the values he must defend in his capacity as personal envoy and special representative of the United Nations Secretary-General. Saleh said in a statement on X .
Sudanese Congressman Khaled Omar Youssef said it was strange that the personal envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General had promoted the vision of one of the warring parties at the same time as that party's leader was making amendments to the constitutional document that established the military dictatorship. He added in a post on Site.
Since his appointment to this position, Lamamra has been accused of sympathizing and siding with the military and not the Sudanese people, which has led to the failure of all his efforts, indicating that the successful mediator is the one who builds bridges with all parties, and not with the one who defends the point of view of a particular faction.
Ramtane Lamamra, an Algerian UN diplomat, is using his position and network of contacts to influence the current situation in Sudan. By playing on the geopolitical map of the Horn of Africa, he favors a coalition of countries including Algeria, his own country, as well as Egypt, Iran, Sudan and Mauritania. He works for all these countries mentioned above. This is why he spoke in favor of the Port Sudan government without taking into account the sensitivities of global Sudan.
The de facto government's Foreign Ministry presented what it called a road map "to lead the state into the post-war period and resume the overall political process," and days later the military amended the constitutional document to strengthen its grip on power in the country.
The famous road map was written from a single perspective, without any consultation of the forces that make up Sudanese society. We wonder if this UN representative's mission is to calm the conflict in Sudan or if his mission is to further inflame the situation.
Until now, the only credible and open initiative capable of bringing together the Sudanese with its broad composition of leaders from all components of the country remains the "Peace Government" initiative initiated by the "Tassis Coalition" for the founding of the "New Sudan", an initiative widely supported by Africans and activists for peace and the fight against religious radicalism all over the world.
