Dagalo sends a message of condolence in honor of His Holiness Pope Francis: A call for peace and unityMessage :
Your Eminences, Leaders of the Catholic Church,
Esteemed People of the Vatican
It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt grief that we received the news of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, who stood as a global symbol of peace, love, and justice—a spiritual leader who devoted his life to the service of humanity and to promoting the values of tolerance and coexistence among peoples and religions. Throughout the ages, the Catholic Church has remained a beacon for the human conscience and a voice that upholds human dignity and calls for dialogue over conflict.
In this painful moment, I can only express my personal pride in those noble values in which I have long believed and which I have worked to embody in my country, Sudan, through a continued call for peace and a commitment to dialogue as the path to resolving conflicts.
However, war was imposed upon us—we did not choose it—and we found ourselves compelled to fight in defense of ourselves, our people, their safety, and the unity of our land.
I extend to you, to all members of the Catholic Church, and to Christians around the world, my sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathies. I pray that your noble mission continues to light the path forward for the world, and that the legacy of His Holiness the Pope may serve as a bridge that carries humanity toward a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace.
May the soul of His Holiness the Pope rest in eternal peace.
First Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo
Commander of the Rapid Support Forces
