Chad: Djougourou, the Man Who Threatens the Déby System
For observers who have witnessed political life since the rise of the Patriotic Salvation Movement, never has a person who sought to audit the public accounts of our extractive enterprise openly clashed with the regime, its political police, and its army.When you look closely at this man’s résumé, you immediately realize he is atypical: he studied, he is an engineer trained in a proper school, and he built a career at the BDEAC.
He is not known among the Marshal father’s inner circle as a zealot, an impulsive man, or a public‑fund embezzler who feels untouchable because he has Amdjarass blood.
Unless we were unaware of it, even his appointment as president of the AILC was strange. You might say they wanted to tarnish him, but it had the opposite effect.
He emerged from his confrontation with the president stronger and more respected. It gave him so much confidence that he wrote to Chadians calling for the president’s removal!
No one reacted after what Ousmane wrote to the Chadian people. For him, the cause of Chad’s mismanagement is the president himself.
He carefully avoided exposing the use of undeclared oil revenues diverted to benefit the president’s family, in‑laws, brothers, uncles, and cousins.
And yet, he had every reason to keep quiet, so as not to blow up or divide his biological family from Amdjarass or Iriba.
This leads us to ask why the Marshal, who has every lever to settle this money issue smoothly—or even secretly—behaved so brutally and violently toward his cousin or uncle, depending on which side of the family you consider.
It is not today that oil revenues have been used to privilege individuals without the Chadian people ever receiving justification for how these funds were used by those responsible—36 years now!
Why was Kaka so violent toward the first cousin of Dilo Djerou Bétchi Yaya?
The answer is no mystery: the MPS told the president that Ousmane Djougourou wants your seat, wants the throne. Djougourou wants to be “caliph in place of the caliph.”
A sufficient reason to trigger the president’s anger and activate his repressive machine, just like in his father’s time against Yaya Dilo.
The ANSE, state media—everything mobilized to smear Ousmane.
Strangely enough, it was with “the luck of a cuckold” that Ousmane managed to flee Chad!
To our great surprise, he ended up in France, then in Khartoum—he is traveling the world.
He knows one thing: between him and his cousin or nephew, there will be a duel to the death.
