REFUGEES AND ASYLUM SEEKERS IN DANGER IN EGYPT
Currently in Egypt, numerous arrests of asylum seekers as well as refugees established in the country are taking place.In reality, the real problem is not that the refugees refuse to respect the formalities of stay in Egypt. But in all truth, the problem comes from the Egyptian immigration administration because an applicant or a refugee must wait 6 months to 1 year to have the possibility of renewing their stay or not.
This is almost the reason why refugees and asylum seekers find themselves without the possibility of staying in this country.
One thing to note, its arrested and deported refugees hold valid cards but unfortunately this does not at all worry the Egyptian police who are blatantly violating the Geneva Convention Refugee Ordinance of 1951 and 1967.
SO! the real question is: why expel a refugee who has a valid UNHCR card? Furthermore, the UNHCR office in Egypt registers asylum seekers every day.
