Masra Succès: Political Isolation or Backlash

By Joe Le Mutant – Charilogone Editorial Team

The arrest of Masra Succès did not spark a wave of popular outrage, and that says a lot. Contrary to what some would have us believe, this silence is not due to any betrayal by Southerners, but to a more complex and bitter political reality.

Masra wasn’t jailed because of Mandekao, but because of his attitude toward Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno — nicknamed “Kaka” — during the transition and elections. His speeches, seen as humiliating, his ability to mobilize, and his charisma deeply irritated the transitional president. The latter harbors a personal hatred toward him, fueled by the feeling of having been publicly belittled.

Beyond this animosity, Masra also disappointed part of the political class and the population. By negotiating alone with the regime, participating in the transition, the referendum, and the presidential election, he legitimized a contested government. Those who once accused him of betrayal for “cutting deals” with Kaka have now changed their stance: they no longer blame him, because his isolation is now obvious.

What Masra needs to understand is that his behavior, seen as selfish, displeased those he claims to defend — especially Southerners. That’s why no one took to the streets to protest his arrest. It’s not betrayal; it’s disavowal. A truth his supporters refuse to admit.

Calling others traitors is too easy. It’s time to show humility, acknowledge mistakes, and change the narrative. As a Southerner, I’ve never betrayed anyone. But I refuse to follow a leader who hasn’t changed anything from within, nor improved the lives of Southern Chadians since entering politics.

Wakit Tamma, for its part, has never publicly criticized Masra. So it’s incoherent to claim that this movement blindly supports his approach. My conscience as a boycotter of this Fifth Republic and its transition is clear.

Finally, believing one can overthrow a regime that’s been in place for 35 years and is protected by France is political naïveté. Macron won’t lift a finger to save Masra or help him seize power. The real traitor is that silent mentor you dare not name: Emmanuel Macron.
