El-Fasher: RSF Seizes the Last Medical Stronghold

By: Special Correspondence – Charilogone Editorial Team

On August 23, 2025, the central hospital of El-Fasher, located in the heart of North Darfur, fell under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), marking a strategic turning point in the conflict that has gripped the region for over a year. This medical facility, long considered a cornerstone of public health and humanitarian aid, now serves as a logistical base for the Tasees coalition forces.

According to local sources, the RSF took possession of the hospital’s infrastructure and medical supplies, which had previously been inaccessible to the population. Commanders on the ground claim that this takeover will allow for a reorganization of medical assistance for residents who fled El-Fasher, offering them free access to healthcare in surrounding areas. The RSF also announced their intention to provide medicine to those in need as far as Nyala, thereby expanding their humanitarian outreach.

This operation is being portrayed by the RSF as a major strategic victory, symbolizing the defeat of the Sudanese army in this key region. As fighting continues in the outskirts of the city, the seizure of the central hospital could reshape logistical and medical dynamics across North Darfur.

International observers remain cautious in response to these claims, highlighting ongoing challenges in access to healthcare, infrastructure security, and the protection of displaced populations. In the context of a prolonged crisis, the future of public health in Darfur will largely depend on the ability of the new occupants to fulfill their commitments.
