  • Chad–Hungary: Parliamentary Diplomacy Paving the Way for a Strategic Partnership

    By: Charilogone Editorial Team

In an international context marked by growing uncertainty within the European Union, Hungary is intensifying its efforts to establish strong bilateral partnerships with African states. On Thursday, July 31, 2025, the President of the Chadian Senate, Dr. Haroun Kabadi, received Zsolt Németh, Hungarian MP and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Hungarian Parliament. This meeting is part of a strategic rapprochement between N’Djamena and Budapest, driven by a shared desire to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy.

Discussions focused on consolidating inter-institutional relations, developing international partnerships, and establishing cooperation mechanisms in key sectors such as energy, agriculture, security, and education. Chad, seeking to diversify its alliances, sees Hungary as a European partner willing to engage beyond traditional frameworks.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Hungary is adopting a more autonomous diplomatic stance, expressing skepticism toward the European Union’s direction. This strategic repositioning is prompting Budapest to multiply bilateral initiatives, especially with African countries, in a spirit of pragmatic and mutually beneficial cooperation.

This meeting between Dr. Kabadi and Zsolt Németh reflects a clear political will to build lasting bridges between the two nations, using parliamentary dialogue as a lever for rapprochement. It could pave the way for a series of concrete agreements, signaling a new era in Chad–Hungary relations.
