Al-Salha: Family Execution by the Sudanese Army

    By: Charilogone Editorial Staff

Al-Salha, Omdurman – June 2025 While the Sudanese army recently claimed to have secured the Al-Salha region south of Omdurman, a horrific massacre belied this supposed stability. An entire family—a father, his wife, their young daughter, and two twin infants—was executed in cold blood by members of the army's Special Action Unit. This crime, shocking in its brutality, reveals a serious failure in the military chain of command and a clear absence of the rule of law in conflict zones.

According to reliable sources on the ground, soldiers from the special unit stormed the family home without a warrant or justification, opening fire on innocent civilians. Witnesses described the incident as reminiscent of the dark days of genocide, not of a war governed by international humanitarian law. The carnage is part of a climate of increasing violence against civilians, exacerbated by the continued impunity of armed forces in areas under their control.

Faced with popular outrage, the Sudanese Congress Party in Khartoum issued a statement strongly condemning this act, which it calls one of the worst violations committed to date. The statement denounces a blatant lack of discipline within certain military units and a complete lack of accountability and justice. It calls for the immediate opening of an independent, transparent, and impartial investigation to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

Beyond this tragedy, the party calls for an urgent end to the war, the disarmament of violent groups, and a return to a civilian political transition to save what remains of the Sudanese state.

The Al-Salha massacre is not just a news item: it is a painful testament to the state's advanced disintegration. As long as judicial institutions remain silent in the face of these atrocities and perpetrators of crimes against civilians act with impunity, the country will sink into an endless bloodbath. Silence is no longer an option. It is time for national actors and the international community to take responsibility to halt this deadly spiral. For, as the Congress Party's statement reminds us: "Crimes against civilians will neither be forgotten nor forgiven."
