Press Statement Regarding CNN Report on Gross Violations in Kanabi Areas

Central Committee of the Kanabi Conference

    O great Sudanese people,
    Our loyal agricultural workers,
The resilient residents of the Kanabi,

The Central Committee of the Kanabi Conference is closely following the investigative report broadcast by the global network CNN, which was prepared with the support and assistance of active international organizations, including the White House. This report constitutes a high-level professional documentation of the grave violations committed against unarmed civilians in the Kanabi areas of central Sudan.

The report clearly and unequivocally reveals a systematic pattern of serious crimes targeting lives, livelihoods, and human dignity. These crimes were perpetrated by the Sudanese Armed Forces, militias affiliated with the Islamic Movement, and the Sudan Shield Forces led by the individual known as Kikel, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

    First: Condemnation and Appreciation

The Central Committee of the Kanabi Conference condemns, in the strongest and clearest terms, these criminal acts, which amount to genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes, and affirms the following:

    Commendation and Support:
We express our deep appreciation for the pivotal role played by international and regional human rights organizations in preparing this report. We also highly value the tremendous efforts exerted by the Executive Office of the Central Committee of the Kanabi Conference, both inside and outside the country, in conveying the voices of the victims to the world.

    Honoring the Victims and Witnesses:
We pray for mercy upon the victims of genocide from among the people of the Kanabi, and we extend our highest gratitude and appreciation to all witnesses and honorable individuals who risked their security and lives to provide field information and data, revealing the truth and breaking the wall of silence, in preparation for ending the policy of impunity.

Second: Affirming the Inevitability of Justice

The Central Committee of the Kanabi Conference affirms that the Kanabi cause is a matter of rights and justice that does not expire with time, and that victory for it is inevitable. Holding all those responsible for these massacres and violations against unarmed civilians accountable is a legal and moral obligation imposed by the rules of international law and the principles of justice and human rights.

    Third: International Legal Action

The Central Committee of the Kanabi Conference announces that it has officially begun preparing a comprehensive legal memorandum containing all documented evidence and facts included in CNN’s report, in addition to other reports, testimonies, and evidentiary materials. This memorandum will be submitted to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and other relevant international mechanisms, with the aim of:

Achieving full justice for the victims,
Restoring dignity and rights to those harmed,
Putting a definitive end to the long-standing policy of impunity in Sudan.

Long live the just cause of the Kanabi.
Glory to the martyrs, freedom to the oppressed, and justice for the victims.
