At the Human Rights Council session in Geneva, from February 24 to April 4, 2025, African NGOs took the floor to denounce the serious human rights violations perpetrated by the Sudanese army. The representative of the African Development Association presented a damning report, calling for justice and accountability.
The report highlights serious crimes, including systematic human rights violations, the use of chemical weapons against the civilian population, the bombing of schools and hospitals, abuses against civilians, and widespread violence. These acts, according to the NGOs, require a thorough investigation and immediate action to protect vulnerable populations.
The representative of the African Development Association demanded that the Sudanese army leadership be held accountable for their actions. He also reminded the members of the Human Rights Council of their moral and humanitarian responsibility in the face of the crisis in Sudan. According to him, inaction would only aggravate the situation and prolong the suffering of the victims.
African NGOs also urged the international community to intervene to end the violations and ensure justice for the victims. They emphasized the importance of cooperation among Council member states to pressure the Sudanese authorities and establish accountability mechanisms.
The situation in Sudan remains critical, and the calls from African NGOs to the Human Rights Council underscore the urgency of action. The international community must heed this call to protect human rights and restore the dignity of the victims.
