CHAD: THE NATURALIZED OF 1990 AND 2000 AGAINST THE NATURALIZERS

Just after the National Conference, among the recommendations was the formal organization of the General Assembly of the Chadian Army, which was to follow the process of disarmament of politico-military groups, demobilization of fighters, and their reintegration for those leaving the profession of arms to return to civilian life.

Marshal Idriss Déby Itno took advantage of this to massively recruit the Zakawa from Sudan, his cousins from Al-Fasher. At the same time, many other Chadian ethnic groups were expelled from the army without rights or compensation. This selective recruitment paved the way for Chadian mercenaries active in the DR Congo, the Central African Republic, Nigeria, and Mali.

As long as militarism and the dynastic project endure, the situation will remain unchanged. Only a genuine democracy and a federal state adapted to Chad’s ethnic and religious diversity, accompanied by a socio-economic development project, could address this chronic military crisis.

As Alfred Djasnan, editor-in-chief of Charilogone, reminded on his Facebook page: “The urgent need for a national army uniting all social classes is imperative, otherwise chaos will prevail.”

From the beginning, Déby senior and then his son sought to make themselves indispensable in terms of security in order to cling to power. War has become the engine of the Déby dynasty, and the state has turned into a business state, where the only commodity that sells best is militarism.

Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno has acquired numerous Western weapons via France, the United States, Turkey, with the support of the United Arab Emirates. Just look at the Rapid Support Forces of General Hemedti in Sudan: they possess neither Chinese nor Russian weapons.

Today, with the fall of Al-Fasher in Sudan, the Toroboros naturalized as Chadians by Déby senior have become a burden for his son. The 30,000 fighters of the DGSSIE, mostly Zakawa from Sudan, risk finding themselves in trouble if disarmament is enforced. The complaint filed with the ICC against the regime in N’Djamena is said to be orchestrated by the Sudanese naturalized fighters (Toroboros), who accuse the regime of having supported the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the capture of Al-Fasher and in the Sudanese war.

Mahamat Idriss Déby has Goranized and Arabized his army, convinced that the Sudanese war will not affect him. But who are truly the enemies of his power?

    The regime’s adversaries

The Chadian population, as a whole, does not support any project put forward by the MPS candidates, not so much because of the projects themselves, but mainly because of the men of questionable morality tasked with carrying them out.

The FACT and CCMSR, composed mainly of Gorane and Toubou rebels.

France, whose army installed and maintained Déby in power against the will of the Chadians, before being dismissed abruptly.

The Toroboros, who supported the regime while committing massacres against the population.

Boko Haram in the West, where the Boudouma and Kamembou populations have been decimated.

Al-Burhan, the weakened Sudanese general whose enemies come from western Sudan.

The Central African Republic, whose rebels are armed and trained in Chad via Baba Ladé.

    The Marshal’s allies

The Dicki family of Amdjarass, rivals of his own brothers and uncles (Déby and Daoussa Itno, Djougourou).

The MPS, the ruling party for 35 years, composed of aging men without achievements, convinced that rehabilitating Zène Bada will save the regime by humiliating, intimidating, and repressing the Chadians.

This recipe of terror has worked until now, but the Chadians of 1990 are no longer those of 2026.

To whom it may concern… bye bye.
